Course outline

  • In this session, we'll cover: the difference between issues and crises; types of crises that can impact businesses; how to identify and classify the risks; and business continuity planning.

  • Before you start thinking about comms, you need to consider the broader organisational management of a crisis. In Module 2 we'll cover: crisis management planning and processes; crisis communication principles; and roles and responsibilities.

  • Now that we've covered off the foundations, it's time to get stuck into the nitty-gritty of crisis comms planning. In Module 3 we'll cover: developing your crisis communication plan; the crisis comms process; how to prioritise your communication; managing crisis communication channels; and developing key messages.

  • The media has a role to play, and how you work with them can make all the difference to your business's reputation. In Module 4 we will cover: the 'golden hour' of crisis communication; social media during a crisis; and working with the media.

  • Leadership is critical to the internal and external communication during a crisis. And we know many crises can last a very, very long time. So in our final module we'll cover: the role of leadership communication during a crisis; and crisis recovery communication and tactics.
